Beginner

2 NOV-BEGINNER-ORANGE-2 SHOT DRILL

2 shot drill facing target.  This is a great beginner drill to engage target .  Start at low ready, engage target x2 shots, then return to low ready. Do with with rifle or pistol and do it with every weapon you own.

23 NOV-BEGINNER-WHITE-CHECKLIST DRILL

The checklist drill is a great warm up when just getting to the range.  It's also vital for any new shooter.  You shoot, but you basically talk to yourself while shooting.  This means starting with the 4 golden rules in your head and then shooting.  Do this drill with pistol or rifle.

14 DEC-BEGINNER-YELLOW-BILL DRILLl

Can adjust to beginner, intermediate, or advanced shooting. You will fire 6 shots center mass as fast as you can.  Get your sights back on target.

4 JAN-BEGINNER-ORANGE-BLIND SWORDSMAN

This drill trains your natural shooting position.  Start this drill by bringing the weapon up and aiming. Now close your eyes and take two shots. This tests your ability to hold your position.  Once you've mastered this, advance to starting from low ready with eyes closed and finally to holster draw while keeping eyes closed. After each two shots series, examine your target to see where your natural aim point is and make adjustments.

25 JAN-BEGINNER-ORANGE-FAST DRILL

The FAST drill is an upper beginner level drill.  You can perform it from the low ready or from holster. Engage the target x2 shots, reload, and engage body x4 shots.  For beginners, take your time on the reload. This is essentially an introductory to reloading.  As you advanced, speed up the reload and start to time yourself to see how long your reload takes.

15 FEB-BEGINNER-ORANGE-GETTING OFF THE X

We return this week with another beginner drill. This week we are demonstrating getting off the X.  We classify this as a beginner level Orange drill.  Sounds simple enough, and it really is.  You will take a step to either side and fire two shots.  This is a start for more advanced drills with more movement and moving while shooting.

8 MAR-BEGINNER-YELLOW-TRIGGER FREEZE

This, we return to a beginner drill called Trigger Freeze. This starts to teach multiple shots and multiple targets.  Additionally there is some appearance of movement to learn.

29 MAR-BEGINNER-YELLOW-KNEELING

This week, we move  to more of a technique than a drill and cover kneeling.

19 APR-BEGINNER-ORANGE-MATCH TARGET

OVR weekly drill returns for another beginner drill.  This drill is a standard drill with OVR and works on following commands, memory, and accuracy.  The system will call out a command for you to shoot. You follow the sequence and move to the next stage.

10 MAY-BEGINNER-ORANGE-3 TARGET TRANSITION

In this drill, you learn to engage multiple targets with no-shoot targets around. Engage only the threats beginning at the center and working to the outside.

31 MAY-BEGINNER-ORANGE-FVTAC 1 to 5

This drill  helps the shooter to break the general habit of 1 or 2 shots at a time. You will shoot the first target once, second target twice, 3rd three times, 4th four times, and final the fifth target 5 timbes.

21 JUN-BEGINNER-ORANGE=2662

This week we show you a beginner drill that is easily transferred to nearly any range.  The only real limitation will be based on how fast you'll be allowed to fire.  Come in to OVR and we can break down each shot for split, accuracy, and overall speed.

BEGINNER DRILLS

12 JUL-BEGINNER-YELLOW-10-10-10

As usual, we incorporate our beginner drills to be able to do them at essentially any range.  This is one you can start with as normal, but you can make it more difficult. To make it more difficult, do as I have by using your non-dominant hand. Once you have that mastered, do one handed or holster draw.  You make it as difficult as you want.  The important thing is to do it with each weapon you own; keeping track of your grouping.

1 AUG-BEGINNER - ORANGE-15 in 10

15 in 10 is a nice upper beginner level drill.  Sounds simple with 15 rounds in 10 seconds, but there are 3 separate targets at 5, 10, and 15 yards. This requires you to slow down between targets and as you shoot at a distance.  Come out and work on your basic skills.

23 AUG-BEGINNER-WHITE-25 YARD SLOW AIMED

Another beginner drill that can be performed at any range. This strictly works on marksmanship. Take your time on this one, there's no time limit.  Put a standard target out to 25 yards and take your shots.  Take your time between shots and aim carefully.

14 SEP-BEGINNER-ORANGE-5 IN 5 AT 5

Ian joins us this week to demonstrate the 5 in 5 at 5; 5 shots in 5 seconds at 5 yards. This is a great beginner drill to increase shooting speed.  Learn to control the recoil followed by keeping the weapon up and ready when finished; avoiding the habit of just dropping your weapon down.

4 OCT-5x5 SKILL TEST-ORANGE-BEGINNER

Ian joins us today to go over this drill. Although this is a beginner drill, it's easy to make advanced with a speed reload, drawing from holster, or adding a par. This is actually 4 drills in one. You start with a simple 5 shots. For your second stage, you'll do 5 shots, but with your strong hand only.  The 3rd stage involves a reload. Take your 5 shots, reload, then 5 more shots. You can modify this at a standard range simply by putting your extra magazine on the table and reloading. Make it advanced by doing a speed reload. For your final stage, take 4 shots to center mass then your 5th shot to the head.
